I looked at your profile and saw that you're in Philly, which is great, because that's where I'll be moving in 5 weeks! My request is that you put together an outfit or two that a hip young chick would wear in Philly in the fall. I'll be working on my Master's degree in couples therapy and want to make sure I dress the part of a young professional. If you could do TWO outfits (I know I'm asking a lot!) that would be great. I'm looking for a casual "walking my bulldog" around the city look, and a more professional "working with clients" look.
Welcome to Philadelphia, Anne - it's a great city! I'll do a casual look for you today, and a professional look tomorrow. Today's look costs just $97.87.
I'm getting married in Mexico in a few months, but to avoid the legal complications of a wedding in a foreign country, my fiancee and I are officially tying the knot in a city hall ceremony in August. I've already spent more than I wanted to on my actually wedding gown, so I'd like to save money on what I actually wear to city hall. Can you help me find a fresh, pretty, and unfussy look for the ceremony? It doesn't have to be white, but I'd prefer a muted color to a bright one for this. My sister is lending me an amazing pair of Manolos, so I don't need shoes - just everything else!
Wow, now there's a pair of shoes we don't usually see on Fashion Under $100! Nice! Anyway, here's a look for under $100 that is delicate but understated.
I am having a baby shower (a co-ed and very non-cutesy baby shower - more like a cocktail party) in August and will be almost seven months pregnant. I really want to look super cute and stand out from the crowd, and also be super comfortable without spending zillions. I prefer dresses, and flat shoes or wedges. My style is usually pretty classic, but i like to throw in a cool accessory or make it my own somehow.
Here is a sophisticated look for under $100. You mentioned that you don't need it to be a maternity dress as long as it's flowy, so here's a dress that you can wear after the baby is born as well!
My aunt is having a "pink party" for her birthday. She wants everyone to be dressed in pink. That's where I need help. I would like to please her and wear pink, but I would also like to wear accessories that stands out and look fashionable. Could you help me?
Of course I can help - here's a fun, flirty look for $90.29.
I have a request for you. I'm going to a wedding in late September. The friend is a bit of an artsy hipster, so I'd like to wear something cool. I'll be four months pregnant at the time, so it couldn't be anything too tight or clingy. Thanks for your help!
Here's a unique and flattering wedding outfit for just $96.03.
I got an email from Jessie this week that made me smile. She writes:
I've been following your blog for over a year now, and I think you do a great job of putting together celebrity looks. And I love the outfits you've been putting together for the new Savvy Stylist feature! But I can't help but wonder, what is your style? You spend so much time on celebrity looks and dressing your readers, and I'd like to see what it is that you like to wear.
Blog about myself? Twist my arm, Jessie! My style is pretty basic, actually. I work in a casual office full-time and I basically live in jeans. I prefer basic clothing items (lots of black!) and funky accessories. Here's a typical outfit you might see me in - it costs just $92.40
Lucky Katie is going to Paris in October for her anniversary. She needs outfit ideas for an upscale dinner, and she doesn't want to look too young or be too cold, so she's asked for help.
You asked the right person, Katie. I've been to Paris several times and the trick to fitting in, fashion-wise, is just not to try to hard (or not to look like you did)! The October weather might be a little bit chilly at night, but I think it'll still be warm enough for you to go bare-legged. As far as accessories go, less is more, but have a great pair of shoes!
This look comes in at just $88.39. I hope you like it.
Allison is turning 19 next week (happy birthday!) and she's got plans to go out dancing with the girls. She'd like an outfit that's comfy enough to dance in all night, but fab enough to make her stand out among her stylish friends.
I hope you like this one, Allison. It cost just $87.27 and is festive but comfy.
Well, I’ve noticed you’ve styled lots of wedding related outfits from Bachelorette Party to Bridal Shower. My shower is coming up in August and I have no clue what to wear! I am not a traditional Bride, nor is our wedding, but I definitely want to keep it classy for the Grandmas. I can definitely take your advice from other posts (I even like the styles a lot so far), but shouldn’t the Bride stand out in some way? I am completely lost. I just know I want to go with a dress or skirt and cute accessories. So here’s your Bride challenge!
Thanks for the challenge, Krista. Here is (I hope) a stand-out look for only $98.18.
I am attending my fiance's 10 year class reunion in the fall. I am looking for a classy red or black dress. I prefer something form fitting, but not too short or two low. I am also pretty tall, so something I could wear flats or low wedges with would be great. Any suggestions?
I just bought these really cute sandals and I want a really cute Mexican inspired look to go with them, but nothing too over done to where I look like I am an extra in a western movie. I would really appreciate if you can help me.
Awesome sandals, Shannon! Here's a look for just $73.88 not including the shoes.
My best friend's bridal shower and bachelorette party are the same day. I would love to wear a cute summery outfit for the shower and either spice it up for the bachelorette party or have another simple outfit to throw on. Any suggestions?
Here's a double-duty look for you for just $99.65. Wear the jacket and flat shoes for the shower, and then change into heels for the party.
I'm going to a Jonas Brothers concert at the end of August and i wont to look good, so I want something simple yet unique. I want to keep cool and i would love flats sandals - even sneakers, just no heel, please. And if you can find a real cute over the shoulder bag I would love it!
I just bought these new mocassin boots and I really need an outfit to wear them with. I want something cute and flirty, with a little bit of edge. I'm a short girl so please no long dresses! Can you help me please?
Love the boots, Meg! They remind me of Kate Moss so I used her as an inspiration for the outfit. Here's a flirty look for just $91.17, not including the boots.
I am going to NYC for 5 days in mid-September. I was hoping for something for daytime, for sightseeing/shopping, but I don't want to look like a tourist. Also an evening look would be nice, nothing formal or dressy, just something for a casual nice dinner (I am going with my 2 aunts so there shouldn't be any bar hopping!).
Here's a non-touristy daytime look for you for only $97.97. I'll post an evening look tomorrow.
I recently got a wonderful ruffled top from the I Heart Ronson line at JCP, but I am at a loss as to how I should wear it. I would like to dress it down, but for some reason the sleeves just seem to big and fat, and the high collar too formal. When I try to wear a sweater over it the sleeves bulk up and the shirt always looks too big. Do you have any outfit ideas I could try? Or maybe I should just try shrinking it?
If I were you, I'd dress it down with skinny jeans and tough brown accessories. Here's a look for just $96.28, including the shirt.
In August I will be going on a Caribbean cruise. For the past 6 weeks, and continuing till the end of July, I have worn nothing but sweats and jeans and t-shirts, as I am studying for the Bar exam. This cruise is a celebration of three hard years and a summer of hard work during law school and bar prep. I would like options for a breezy, girly, summery dress look. I am rather short, so something that can fit a petite girl and that I can walk around and lounge in would be wonderful. I will be doing lots of fun excursions, so I need something comfortable too!
Congrats, Julie! Here's a cool and comfy but feminine look for just $88.94.
I need help to find a cute and affordable outfit for the Beyonce concert. My friends are all dressing up and I don't want to be the boring one. I'm down for almost anything, but would prefer flats, or low heels so that I can dance throughout the concert and at the after parties!
Here's a look for you for only $93.09. I hope you like it!
I've been invited to a friend's birthday party on Sunday. It's a barbecue. It's supposed to be really hot and sunny so I need a casual outfit, but one that's still dressy because a guy I like is going to be there. Please help!
