What the Frock? - Affordable Fashion Tips and Trends: Best and Worst of the Oscars Red Carpet

And here we go again! It was a nice, safe red carpet tonight. Most people looked at least nice, and there were only a few looks that I was really unhappy with. So let's begin.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

So I almost always give Angelina a hard time about her red carpet choices, but she looks magnificent here. Yes, it's basic black, but it's amazing what a saucy pose and a (gasp!) smile can do.

Berenice Bejo in Elie Saab

Disappointing. The color is blah, the dress itself ages her, and that hair color doesn't do her any favors.

Cameron Diaz in Gucci

I usually hate beige dresses, but this one is gorgeous and suits her well without washing her out. I do wish she'd done something with her hair.

Ellie Kemper in Armani Prive

Fabulous. I wouldn't think it was a good idea to match a dress to one's hair, but this looks amazing on her. I think the bangs overwhelm her, though.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli

This would've been my favorite of the night, but it's way too reminiscent of the Balenciaga that Nicole Kidman wore a few years back. I like it better than Nicole's - I just wish that it didn't look so much like it.

Giuliana Rancic

This was beautiful - I just wish that it didn't have that wacky illusion netting up top. Still, this may be a personal best for Giuliana

Glenn Close in Zac Posen

On the red carpet, I thought this was black, but now it looks like deep, dark green. I wish I could see what it looked like without the jacket. I think Glenn could've definitely gone with bare arms.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

BITCH BROUGHT IT. This may be another personal best.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

When I saw this, I tweeted J-Lo's dress is the perfect J-Lo dress. It's uber-sexified and pretty much over the top, but it's perfect for her. Later on, I realized that the shoulder holes had illusion netting, and that turned me off. Gross.

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen

Another personal best. She almost always looks, at best, a bit "off," and at worst, a hot mess. This is flawless.

Kate Mara in Elie Saab

Very romantic and pretty.

Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

Lovely, flattering, interesting dress. The hair is still HORRIFYING.

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel

Okay dress, a bit too low in the boobage area, but WHY DOES SHE REFUSE COLOR? Imagine how pretty this would be in a deep teal.

Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli

Simple and pretty

Maya Rudolph

Pretty dress, but not at all the right dress for her. Shame.

Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi

I wish this was a deeper color, and the sleeves are a bit overwhelming. Hair and makeup are gorge.

Meryl Streep in Lanvin

Beautiful - she looks like a statuette. I wish her shoes didn't match the dress exactly, but that's nitpicking when she looks this good.

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Love, love, love the color and ruffle details. Not crazy about the peplum, but she was still one of my favorites there.

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

Stunning, if a bit bridal.

Natalie Portman in vintage Christian Dior

I want to love this, because it's different. But for some reason, I feel that it's just okay.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

She's been very loyal to Tadashi Shoji this red carpet season, and with good reason. They are the perfect designer to dress her. She looks gorgeous.

Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive

Old school glamour - she looks like a movie star. But this look is a bit aging on her. She looks beautiful, but she could bring the sex a bit more.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy

It's the perfect dress for her. I can't see anyone else working it like she does.

Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood

Another black dress that I actually like. Sexy, old Hollywood glamour

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

This looked better on TV than it does in this still photo. I don't love it, but at least it's interesting.

Sarah Hyland in Alberta Ferretti

Pretty, if basic. Looks like every other red carpet dress she's worn this year. More importantly (and this is no offense to Sarah, who is adorable and funny on Modern Family) WHY was she at the Oscars?

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture

Tragic. Why would a pretty little 20 year-old wear something that is so bland and aging?

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

This is the sex-bomb version of Meryl's dress. I am not crazy about the rosette, but there's no doubt that the dress is perfect for Stacy.

Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera

Hair, makeup and jewelry are fab. The dress fits beautifully. But WHYYYYYY can't it be a color? Yes, I know that it was a lighter navy that it appears in this photo, but imagine it in a deep fuchsia. Amirite?
